With a theme of mistrust and danger, Marvel Studios’, new, original, live-action series Secret Invasion is now streaming on Disney+ Hotstar with a weekly episodic drop. Available in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu & Malayalam, the series takes place in the present-day MCU, several decades after the events of “Captain Marvel,” where we join Nick Fury (Samuel L Jackson) as he leaves S.A.B.E.R. and returns to Earth where trouble is brewing. He is met by his most trusted colleagues, Skrull General Talos (Ben Mendelsohn) and agent Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders), who inform him that a rebel Skrull group threatens the very existence of the human race.
Directed by visionary Ali Selim and with Kyle Bradstreet as the head writer, the series also introduces Academy Award-winning Olivia Colman for the first time to the MCU. She joins as Sonya Falsworth, a seasoned MI6 agent, who will stop at nothing to protect her beloved England—no matter the cost.
Joining the MCU with such a different kind of Marvel story, was something she never imagined would happen. “I got into Marvel films with my now teenage boys. When they were much younger, we would sit together as a family and watch them. At first, I thought they weren’t for me but as soon as I got into them, I was absolutely hooked, and the boys would explain where everything came from and how it all fitted in. I just got into it and loved the films. Being part of it now was something I never imagined would happen. Everyone involved in it is thrilled to be part of it, and it was just a great wheeze from start to finish,” she added.
In the series, it could be said that Nick Fury meets his match with Sonya Falsworth. They both are old friends but yet don’t completely trust each other. Olivia Colman couldn’t contain her excitement when she found out she would be working with the legendary Samuel L. Jackson in Secret Invasion. Talking about her love for Samuel L Jackson, she said, “I love Samuel L. Jackson. I was so excited and so nervous when I knew I was going to meet him, and he was just so lovely. He called my sneakers dope, and I don’t think I took them off for a year!”
“I think we had chemistry on set because we were so excited to meet each other, and we got on really well. He mucks about and I muck about, and that was really nice. I think we were excited to work together and enjoyed the process,” she added.
Samuel L. Jackson, meanwhile, has nothing but praise for Colman, with whom he shares several important scenes in the series. “Olivia Colman is so amazing, I just really love working with her. She comes in, and it’s one of those things where I’ve always known from watching her that as serious and convincing and as honest as her work is, you can see the twinkle in her eye that’s fun. Like me, this is a sort of playground for her, she just wants to come to work and the better you are at it, the better she becomes. She’s so amazing,” said Jackson.
Secret Invasion is a gripping story in the ever-changing Marvel Cinematic Universe, packed with mysterious moments and unexpected narrative twists. The captivating thriller boasts an exceptional cast that also includes Don Cheadle as Colonel James ‘Rhodey’ Rhodes and Martin Freeman as Agent Everett Ross, Kingsley Ben-Adir as Gravik, the young rebel leader, and Emilia Clarke as G’iah, Talos’ daughter.
