27-Year-Old Youth who was in Critical Condition After Near Drowning Incident at Chennai Beach, Saved by Doctors Promed Hospital

Chennai, October 17th, 2023: Timely response from the medical team at Promed Hospital, a leading multispecialty hospital at Kottivakkam, Chennai, saved the life of a 27-year-old who man who was in very critical condition after a near drowning experience at Chennai Beach. The youngster was dragged into the sea while saving another person from drowning and was rescued by bystanders.
Arul Mozhi B, an IT professional from Thiruvanmiyur, Chennai, had visited Besant Nagar beach along with his friends in the 3rd week of September. He noticed a youngster drowning in the sea. Arulmozhi jumped into the sea to rescue the young man, unfortunately a high tide dragged him deeper. The bystanders in shore rescued Arulmozhi, administered CPR in a bid to revive the youngster and rushed him to Promed Hospital in critical condition within 10 minutes.
The emergency response team, led by Dr. Santhosh, Consultant, Emergency Department, Promed Hospital quickly started life-saving treatments on the patient who arrived unconscious and in serious condition. Arul Mozhi was intubated in the emergency room and the sustained heart rhythm resumed after four cycles of CPR and the patient was put on mechanical ventilator and shifted to intensive care unit.
A High-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) of the chest was performed, and the results revealed aspiration pneumonia and pulmonary edema. “The patient had no pulse and required immediate resuscitation when he was brought to the hospital said Dr Spoorthi Arun, Managing Director, Promed Hospital. The medical expert team’s quick and coordinated efforts, coupled with their expertise and state-of-the-art equipment, proved instrumental in stabilizing the patient, Patient’s clinical condition started gradually improving and ventilator support was weaned off.
