Bhairavi Dhandapani and Avadhut Spiritual and Cultural Foundation Bring National Recognition to Nashville
In 2025, Professor Bhairavi Dhandapani of the Avadhut Spiritual and Cultural Foundation led her students to a series of outstanding Carnatic music performances, earning widespread appreciation across cultural and religious platforms in and around Nashville.
A major highlight of the year was the students’ rendition of Jagadananda Karaka, a celebrated composition of Saint Tyagaraja, presented during a Halloween event in November. The performance was widely praised for its musical precision, devotional depth, and disciplined presentation.
The students continued to shine at numerous cultural and religious celebrations, including Diwali, Iyyappa Pooja, New Year, and Pongal programs. They performed for prominent organizations such as the Tennessee Tamil Sangam, Tennessee Kannada Koota, Tennessee Telugu Association, and Marathi Mandal, as well as at revered temples including the Tennessee Ganesh Temple and the Shree Sai Baba Temple. The children’s performances, in particular, were noted for their maturity, clarity, and emotive strength.
Beyond stage performances, the Avadhut Spiritual and Cultural Foundation achieved significant success at the national level. Students of the academy won two First Prizes at the national level in the senior category and two Second Prizes at the national level in the junior category. Professor Bhairavi Dhandapani herself secured First Prize in a national-level classical music competition and Second Prize in a national-level film music competition. In total, the Avadhut Spiritual and Cultural Foundation earned six national-level awards, bringing pride and honor to the Nashville community.
The academy also received national media recognition when its students were interviewed by NDTV, highlighting their pursuit of classical Carnatic music education in Nashville—a city globally known for country music. This recognition served as a significant milestone for the students and provided strong encouragement for the continued growth of the academy.
Further adding to its achievements, Avadhut Music Academy students were honored with the Global Icon Awards in Nashville and received several accolades from various cultural associations for their consistent excellence and contributions to the arts.
Through these accomplishments, Professor Bhairavi Dhandapani and the Avadhut Spiritual and Cultural Foundation continue to preserve the rich heritage of Carnatic music while expanding its reach, earning recognition at both national and global levels and inspiring the next generation of musicians.
